Montreal City Winner Announcement
On April 25th, we held our second Fundica Roadshow event of 2019 at Espace CDPQ in Montreal. Fifteen startups pitched to a panel of investors from Panache Ventures, BCF Ventures, R&D Capital, Framework Venture Partners, Anges Quebec, Impression Ventures, WhiteStar Capital, Medteq, and Box One Ventures. When the final scores were tallied at the end of the day, Mechasys, Silofit, and Soundskrit came out on top. All three startups will move on to the finale in Montreal on June 20th.
"Montreal has a strong and diverse entrepreneurial history that brings together world-class innovation in aerospace, AI, biotechnology, and other areas of technology, as well as unique cultural flavours. Mechasys, Silofit, and Soundskrit definitively continue this tradition,” said Mike Lee, president of Fundica. “I’m excited to see what our final regional event in Toronto on May 16th has in store, and I wish those who apply to pitch there ‘good luck’.”
Mechasys, represented at the Fundica Roadshow by William St-Pierre, is making breakthrough products that simplify complex construction site tasks and increase worksite productivity. They are currently developing a laser projection system that displays construction plans in real scale on construction sites. Silofit, represented by Wilfred Valenta, is a real-estate-as-a-service platform that focuses on leasing and converting small offices into micro-gyms that can be rented by the hour. Last but not least, Soundskrit, represented by Sahil Gupta, has designed a patent-protected microphone that can separate sounds coming from multiple directions using a single microphone, without compromising size or quality.
“I think what makes [the Fundica Roadshow] distinct is definitely the caliber of the panelists as well as the opportunity to pitch in front of so many judges at the same time,” said Silofit CEO and Co-Founder Wilfred Valenta, “Also, the exposure you get across Canada is really great.”
At the finale, these three startups, as well as our other city finalists, will have a chance to pitch for the grand equity investment award, now valued at up to $1,000,000 and powered by AngelList syndicate leads in addition to Panache Ventures and BCF Ventures. They will also receive $20,000 in Google Cloud hosting credits and a cloud package from CANARIE.
One stop in Toronto (May 16th) remains before the finale. Though it will be open only to select entrepreneurs, investors, and partners, tickets for the finale can be purchased here.
