Vancouver Winner Announcement
On April 4th, we kicked off the 2019 Fundica Roadshow with our first regional event in Vancouver. Sixteen startups, representing industries ranging from femtech to greentech, pitched to a panel of investors from inovia, Panache Ventures, BCF Ventures, VFF VC, Framework VC, Vanedge Capital, Active Impact Investments, and R&D Capital. At the end of the day, Ftsy, Neuraura, and Moore & Gasperecz Global were selected to move on to the finale on June 20th.
Ftsy, represented at the Fundica Roadshow by CEO Ryan Smith, is an ecommerce platform that makes it easy to shop online for the best-fitting shoes; Neuraura, represented by co-founder and CEO Pierre Wijdenes, is helping end brain diseases and the associated stigma by leveraging decades of research and applying leading practices in neuroscience and microfabrication to the challenge of understanding the electrophysiological workings of the brain; and Moore & Gasperecz Global, represented by CEO Maragery Moore, converts complex EHS legal documents into compliance action items in seconds by leveraging machine learning.
In addition to a chance to pitch for the $800,000 equity investment award, powered by Panache Ventures and BCF Ventures, the Vancouver winners will each receive $20,000 in Google Cloud hosting credits and a cloud package from CANARIE.
"As always, we were very impressed by the startups pitching at our Vancouver event as well as the investors shaping entrepreneurship in Western Canada,” said Mike Lee, president of Fundica. “We look forward to seeing Neuraura, Ftsy, and Moore & Gasperecz Global again on June 20th."
“Canada has so much to sell…and we really have this opportunity, I think, to change the world,” said Neuraura CEO Pierre Wijdenes. “And often what we see is that Canadian companies will go away to find the financing somewhere else… [The Fundica Roadshow is] exactly what Canada needs to actually compete, in terms of innovation, with the world, and I’m very proud to be part of it now.”
The Fundica Roadshow stop in Vancouver will be followed by two additional regional events in Montreal (April 25th) and Toronto (May 16th) as well as a finale on June 20th. Though the regional stops will be private events—open only to select entrepreneurs, investors, and partners—tickets for the finale can be purchased here.
